ADU Electrical Installation in Auburn & Placer County
Full ADU Electrical Service
- Service evaluation & load calculation: Can your existing service feed the ADU, or does it need an upgrade? We answer this first — it drives the whole budget. See our panel upgrade services.
- Subpanel or separate meter: Most ADUs run on a subpanel from the main house; rentals sometimes warrant a separate meter. We walk you through both.
- Complete rough-in & finish: Circuits, outlets, lighting, smoke/CO detectors, mini-split and appliance circuits, low-voltage prewire.
- Title 24 & CALGreen compliance: High-efficacy lighting, required controls, and EV-capable provisions where applicable.
- Solar-ready: New construction ADUs generally trigger California’s solar mandate — we coordinate the solar installation too, under one roof.
Garage Conversions & JADUs
- Existing wiring assessment: Garage circuits were never designed for a dwelling. We evaluate and upgrade what’s there.
- Kitchen & bath circuits: Dedicated small-appliance circuits, GFCI and AFCI protection to dwelling-unit code.
- Heating & cooling: Mini-split circuits sized and wired.
- Older-home upgrades: Conversions on older properties often reveal wiring that needs attention — we also do whole-home rewiring when the project calls for it.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does an ADU need its own electrical panel? It needs its own distribution — almost always a subpanel. A fully separate utility meter is optional and mainly matters for rentals.
- Will my existing 100A service support an ADU? Sometimes, with load management — but many projects pencil out better with a 200A upgrade. The load calculation tells the truth, and we run it early.
- Is solar required on a new ADU? Newly constructed ADUs are generally subject to California’s solar requirements (conversions typically are not). We handle both the electrical and the solar scope.
- Do you work with our general contractor? Constantly — we coordinate rough-in and finish phases with builders across Placer County, or run the electrical scope directly for owner-builders.
